NESA Life Skills

Curriculum

Secondary Learning at St Gabriel’s School supports students to develop independence, confidence and practical skills for life beyond school.

Our students develop their literacy and numeracy skills while following the NESA Life Skills Curriculum across a range of subjects. As students move into Years 11 and 12, there is the opportunity to study TVET courses, including Hospitality and Retail Studies. Our subjects include:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science (Years 7-10)
  • Geography
  • History (Years 7-10)
  • PDHPE
  • Religious Education
  • Auslan (Years 7 and 8)
  • Work and the Community (Years 9 and 10)
  • Hospitality (Years 11 and 12)
  • Retail Studies (Years 11 and 12)
  • Work Education (Years 11 and 12)

While we are conscious of the obligation for our students to meet the requirements of the National Education Standards Authority (NESA), we also prepare them for what lies beyond school by teaching them practical living skills. This focus provides families the reassurance that their child is being supported in navigating the skills needed beyond the school environment.

Personalised Learning

Personalised learning is at the heart of how our students learn. Through strong collaboration with families, external therapists, our teachers and our Allied Health Team, a personalised plan is developed to best suit the learning style of each child.
